It always baffles me when ships’ communications are down and they can’t communicate with anyone outside. You have shuttles don’t you?! auxiliary craft? use them!
Oh no! We’ve lost main power and the transporters are down, if only we had a half dozen transporters on their own independent power supply in our hangar bay that would save the day.
Oh no we have this crewmember with a potential deadly disease that could spread to the rest of the ship. Too bad we don’t have a sealed environment with all the amenities necessary for life that can exist separate from the ship to protect the crew.
Oh no we have lost power and are going to crash into [insert object] in 4 hours. Too bad we don’t have engines external to the ship with tractor beams that could make a slight adjustment to out course that could buy us more time or tow us clear entirely.
